Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus

“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith…” (Hebrews 12:2)
Prayers in Pursuit of God
Part 8 of a 11

Other than Hebrews 11:1 nowhere in the bible is faith ever defined, and even there it is defined functionally, not philosophically. Yet scripture assumes the presence of faith and shows what it results in, rather than what it is. We are told from whence it comes, "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."(Romans 10:17) and by what means it comes “Faith is a gift of God," (Ephesians 2:8) yet in truth there is no definition of faith
When the people of Israel spoke against God and Moses the Lord sent snakes in their mist and many people were bitten and died. But when Moses interceded with God for the people God told Moses to make a serpent of bass and put it on a pole and when someone was bitten they needed only to look at the pole with the se

In John 3:14-15
Yehoshua give us clarity on the real meaning of faith when teaching his hearer how they may be saved “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” Here we discover that “look” and “believe” are synonymous. Looking on the Old Testament serpent, is identical with believing on the New Testament Christ. And he would understand that while Israel looked with their external eyes, believing is done with the heart. Therefore believing, is directing the heart's attention to Jesus. It is lifting the mind to "behold the Lamb of God," and faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God.rpent and they would not die. (Numbers 21:4-9)
Faith is the least self-regarding of the virtues, completely unconscious of its own existence. Like the eye which sees everything in front of it and never sees itself, faith is occupied with the Object upon which it rests and pays no attention to itself at all. In the same way a man of faith who is preoccupied with looking at God never sees the wretchedness of himself. And unlike one that has taken is heart off of God he does not try to please God with his works. Where sin has made self the focus of our attention Faith put our focus back on Yehoshua the author and finisher of our faith!
Let us pray;
  • O Father, My Lord and Savior I have heard Your word inviting me to look away to You and be satisfied. My heart longs to respond, but sin has clouded my vision to the point where I can hardly see You. I desire that You would cleanse me in the precious blood of Jesus, and make me inwardly pure, so that I may with unveiled eyes gaze upon You all the days of my earthly pilgrimage. I desire to look upon You in the fullness of Your splendor and Goodness of Your majesty and see You glorified in Your saints, and admired and feared in all the world. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness and those that look upon it did not die, Help me to fix the eyes of my heart on the already lifted up Savior, and believe. In Jesus Name

    1. I will pray for you;

      Dear Heavenly Father I come to you in the mighty name of Jesus, because You alone are able to save us, You are the wellspring of the hope that is in us for fullness of life. Father I know that a man in bondage can never live life to its fullness; and I know that You sent your son Jesus Christ so that we could live life in fullness, To set us free of the things of this world which bound us,
      Now lord Jesus I lift up to You my brother Jon, that you would free him from his addictions, heal him of his sickness, release him from the worries of this world and everything which stifles the fullness of life that you had promised.
      Strengthen his decisions, and give him dominion over compulsive behaviors. Remind him of the fullness of life and the freedom that is in Christ Jesus. Set before him the prize of an abundant life and the will to achieve it through faith in You
      Now Father I cultivate and expectancy of hearing a report and a victory that he will achieve through faith in You my savior Jesus Christ.
      Amen and it is so.
